Canine Commandos - 'Do it for the Dogs!!!'

Brevard ASAP encourages community education through programs such as Canine Commandos, founded by Brevard ASAP director Virginia Hamilton.

Canine Commandos celebrated its 10th anniversary at the Radisson Hotel in Indialantic May 16th 2012.  Nineteen schools, 328 students from grades 5 through 8 provide daily, consistent training at South Animal Care Center and Central Brevard Humane Society.

Canine Commandos 10th Anniversary

Dogs are often overlooked for adoption because of excessive barking and jumping in their runs.  The Commandos train the dogs on five basic commands to improve their behaviors helping them find homes.  Not only are the dogs trained in basic commands but at CBHS they are walked and agility trained.  Cats are now being socialized too. Current success rate is 49%, which is tracked through comment cards.

Canine Commandos Art Chairs fundraising

Once the students have returned to their classrooms, they work on unique activities like these Chairs for Charity which were integrated with their Art History lessons.

Canine Commandos continue their success through donations to help pay for the trainer, training materials and buses.  If you would like to help the Commandos grow and continue you may send your tax deductible donations to:
